Abstract

Interest in the production and collection of medicinal and aromatic plants is increasing. According to data from the Croatian Agricultural Chamber of the Republic of Croatia are grown and collected 170 species of medicinal and aromatic plants. This is supported by very good natural and geographical conditions, in particular soil and climate, ensuring the successful growth of medicinal and aromatic plants. Essential oils used in the preparation of fragrances, flavourings, spices and drinks, but often used their pharmacodynamic action. The essential oils contained in the plant tissue are extracted in several ways. The simplest procedures are: steam distillation, calendering, extraction supercritical gas extraction with organic solvents can therefore conclude that the cultivation of plants for the production of essential oils flatten in most parts of the national territory. In some of these regions cultivation of aromatic and medicinal plants and their extraction have a long and very successful tradition.
