Abstract
Heljda je izuzetno je važna biljka u prehrani i zdravlju ljudi. Može se uzgajati kao glavni i kao postrni usjev. Zbog kratke vegetacije najčešće se koristi kao postrni usjev. Zbog niskih prinosa od 2 t po hektaru kao glavnog usjeva i 1 do 1,5 t kao postrnog usjeva heljda je za nas neisplativa kultura, što se vidi po malim zasijanim površinama, te se smatra zaboravljenom biljkom iako ima velik agrotehnički značaj. Heljda je biljka malih zahtjeva prema tlu, a ostavlja tlo čisto od korova te je vrlo dobra predkultura. Biljka heljde se može u potpunosti iskoristiti. Medonosna je biljka, žetvene ostatke koristimo kao zelenu gnojidbu, a zelena masa i slama koristi se za stoku. Zrno, odnosno sjemenka heljde, kvalitetnog je nutritivnog sastava u pogledu bjelančevina i esencijalnih aminokiselina, a u usporedbi s ostalim žitaricama ima više vitamina i minerala te ne sadrži gluten. Osim prehrambene, ova biljka ima i farmaceutsku vrijednost jer je bogata glikozidom rutinom te je dokazana njezina ljekovitost u borbi protiv mnogih bolesti današnjice.

Buckwheat is very important plant for human diet and health. It could be grown as a major and as a second crop. As buckwheat has short growing season, it is most often used as a second crop. Due to low grain yield of only 2 t/ha as the main crop, and 1-1.5 t/ha as a second crop, it turns out that buckwheat is unprofitabile crop resulting in small sown area. So, it is considered as a forgotten plant although it has important agro-technical significance. It has small requirements for soil and it is a very good previous crop. This plant could be fully utilized. It is honey plant, harvest residues are used as green manure and green mass and straw are used for cattle. Buckwheat grain is of high quality and nutritional composition regarding proteins and essential amino acids; it have more vitamins and minerals in comparison with other cereals and contains no gluten. Besides its nutritive value as a food, this plant has pharmaceutical value also, because is rich in glycoside rutin with proved medicinal effect in fight against many deseases of today.
