Abstract
Organska tvar tla ili humus je tamna tvar tla koja je nastala procesima humifikacije biljaka i životinja. Podrijetlo organske tvari je, prije svega, od ostataka živih organizama koji se nalaze u tlu i koji svojom aktivnošću čine organske spojeve tla. Sadržaj organske tvari može biti stalan, ali se može i smanjivati i povećavati. To prije svega ovisi o načinu gospodarenja tlom, te o načinu korištenja tla. Ovisno o fizikalnim, kemijskim i biološkim svojstvima tla možemo klasificirati humus na blagi, polusirovi i sirovi. Nadalje, govoreći o samim svojstvima tla, organska tvar svojim sadržajem, količinom i kvalitetom određuje plodnost kao i samu produktivnost tla. Što je sadržaj organske tvari veći, svojstva su bolja, i obrnuto. Cilj svakog poljoprivrednika je povećati sadržaj organske tvari u tlu. To se može postići upotrebom komposta, zelenom gnojidbom, sjetvom jednogodišnjih krmnih kultura, reduciranom ili potpuno izostavljenom obradom tla, te pošumljavanjem. Uzevši u obzir sve činjenice, na umu treba imati da je humus dormantna snaga tla, temelj njegove kvalitete, odnosno izvor energije za rast i razvoj biljnoga svijeta (Vukadinović i Vukadinović, 2011.). Pregledom literature i istraživanja možemo utvrditi iznimnu važnost organske tvari u tlu.

Soil organic matter or humus is dark matter of the soil which is result of the processes of humification plants and animals. The origin of organic matter is, first of all, from the remains of living organisms that are found in the soil and that their activity consists of organic compounds of the soil. The content of organic matter may be constant, but can also be made smaller or larger. It primarily depends on how soil is managed, and on land use. Depending on the physical, chemical and biological properties of the soil we can classify humus to mild, semi-raw and raw. Furthermore, speaking of the very properties of the soil, organic matter whit its content, quantity and quality determines the fertility and productivity of the soil itself. With bigger content of organic matter, properties are better, and vice versa. The goal of every farmer is to increase the content of organic matter in the soil. This can be achieved by using compost, green manure, sowing of perennial forage crops, reduced or completely omitted tillage, and afforestation. Taking into account all the facts,we must keep in mind that humus is dormant force of soil, the basis of its quality, and energy source for the growth and development of plant life (Vukadinović and Vukadinović, 2011). With review of the literature and research we can determine that organic matter in soil is of exceptional importance
