Abstract
Matica je glavna jedinka u zajednici i ujedno jedina ženska reproduktivno sposobna jedinka. Dobivanje što brojnijeg legla čimbenik je koji će odlučivati o budućnosti i snazi zajednice. Istraživanje povezanosti starosti matice i broja spermija u njenoj spermateci pomaže utvrđivanju reproduktivne sposobnosti matice u određenoj dobi i daje pretpostavku o daljnjoj proizvodnji i snazi zajednice. Istraživanje je vršeno na 210 matica, a uspješno je izolirana 141 spermateka, od kojih je za 138 izračunat promjer. Korištene su matice stare 0 i 1. godine, to jest matice izlegnute 2015. i 2014. godine. Između starosti matice i broja spermija u spermateci utvrđena je pozitivna korelacija i značajna razlika. Broj spermija izmjerenih u spermatekama matica starih 0 godina bio je u prosjeku 3,96 miliona, dok je za matice stare 1 godinu on iznosio 2,64 miliona. Dobiveni rezultati ukazuju na smanjenje broja spermija u spermateci sa starošću matice i povećanje tjelesne mase matice sa starošću

Queen is the only reproductively capable female and most important individual in honey bee colony. Strength and future of colony depends on brood production. Finding correlation between age of the queen and number of spermatozoa in the spermatheca helps to determine reproductive capability of queen in certain age which will help to assume further production and strength of colony. Research was conducted on 210 queen bees, 141 spermatheca was isolated successfully, and for 138 spermatheca was calculated diameter. In this research 0 (queens laid in 2015) and 1. (queens laid in 2014) year old queens was used for dissection. Positive correlation and significant difference was found between the age of queen and number of spermatozoa in spermatheca. Number of spermatozoa in spermatheca of 0 year old queens was in average 3,96 million and for 1 year old queens was 2,64 million. These results indicate decreasing number of spermatozoa in spermatheca with age of the queen and increasing of body weight with age.
