Abstract
U radu sam analizirao stanje ekološke poljoprivrede u Europi i u Republici Hrvatskoj, posebno u povrćarskoj proizvodnji. S podatcima usmjerenim na europske zemlje prikazana je zastupljenost površina pod ekološkom proizvodnjom te koliki su udjeli ekološke hrane na tržištu kao i njezina potrošnja po stanovniku. Istaknuo sam glavne prednosti i nedostatke ekološke poljoprivrede te može li postati nositelj održivog razvoja u budućnosti. Ekološka proizvodnja povrća nije dovoljno zastupljena ni na površinama, ni u distribucijskim kanalima u Republici Hrvatskoj, iako je u ostalim europskim zemljama ona prilično razvijena. Premda su potpore prilično visoke i dalje postoje mnoge prepreke koje onemogućavaju razvoj ekološke poljoprivrede u Republici Hrvatskoj

In these theses I analyzed the situation of organic farming in Europe and in Croatia , especially in vegetable production. The data focused on European countries shows the representation of the area under organic production , share of organic food market and its consumption per capita. I pointed the main advantages and disadvantages of organic farming and can will become a carrier of sustainable development in the future. Organic production of vegetables is not sufficiently represented on agricultural lands and in distribution channels in Croatia, although it is quite advanced in Europe. Despite the support of quite high, there are still many obstacles that hinder the development of organic farming in the Republic of Croatia
