Abstract
Cilj ovog rada je bio prikazati karakteristike i mogućnosti sudanske trave i njenih hibrida sa sirkom u proizvodnji krme i susretanju hranidbenih potreba preživača te je usporediti s najzastupljenijim krmnim kulturama u nizinskoj Hrvatskoj: silažnim kukuruzom i lucernom. Istraživanje je utemeljeno na pregledu literature. Prikupljeni podaci su pomoću analize i sinteze strukturirano prikazani u ovom radu. Istraživanje je pokazalo da sudanska trava i njeni hibridi sa sirkom mogu dati voluminoznu krmu vrlo visoke hranidbene vrijednosti u pogledu sadržaja sirovih bjelančevina i energije, prikladnu čak i za najzahtjevnije kategorije preživača – visokomliječne krave. Svojom kvalitetom po oba parametra može biti vrlo slična najvažnijim krmnim kulturama: silažnom kukuruzu i lucerni. Visoka kvaliteta voluminozne krme postiže korištenjem biljne mase u vegetativnim razvojnim stadijima, višekratnom košnjom ili napasivanjem (oko 3 puta tijekom vegetacije). Također, i prinosi suhe tvari mogu biti vrlo visoki, tek nešto manji nego li kod silažnog kukuruza, kao najprinosnijeg usjeva za voluminoznu krmu, pod uvjetom da se biljna masa sudanske trave koristi u kasnim razvojnim fazama, u voštanoj zriobi zrna (dakle, jednokratno). Nažalost, kvaliteta i prinos su kod sudanske trave obrnuto proporcionalni, tako da se kod višekratnog korištenja u mladim razvojnim fazama postiže niska vegetacijska kumulanta prinosa suhe tvari, a kod jednokratnog korištenja visok prinos i niska kvaliteta. U godinama s vlažnim ljetima sudanska trava i hibridi sa sirkom mogu dati znatno veće prinose nego li sa sušnim ljetima, što je osobito važno kod višekratnog režima korištenja. Zbog svoje kratke vegetacije, sudanska trava i njeni hibridi sa sirkom se odlično uklapaju u plodored, i to kao naknadni krmni usjevi poslije košnje ozimih krmnih usjeva. Takvim uklapanjem u plodored mogu tijekom ljeta dati izvrsnu svježu zelenu krmu ili biljnu masu za pripremu sjenaže, pa čak sijena. U slijedu s ozimim krmnim usjevima omogućava visoki ponder kvalitete proizvedene krme i visoku kumulantu prinosa suhe tvari.

Aims of the research were to present the characteristics and capabilities of sudangrass and its hybrids with sorghum in forage production and meeting the nutritional needs of ruminants, and to compare them with most important forage crops in the plane region of Croatia: silage maize and lucerne. The research was based on a literature review. The collected data were analyzed and synthesized for a structural presentation. The research has shown that sudangrass and its hybrids with sorghum can provide a high quality forage considering the crude protein and energy content, suitable for even most demanding ruminants class – high yielding dairy cows. According to its protein and energy level it is may be competitive even to the silage maize and lucerne. High forage quality can be attained only when used in early developmental phases, while vegetative, what implies multiple harvests during the vegetation (about 3). The dry matter yields can also be high, just a little lesser than of silage maize which ist considered to be the highest yielding forage crop. So high yields of sudangrass can be achieved only in the late developmental phase – waxy grain stage, what implies a single harvest only near the end of vegetation. Unfortunately, yield and quality are negatively correlated, what implies that multiple harvesting in early stages will give a small cumulative yield, and conversely, single harvest near end of vegetation will give a poor quality forage. Plenty f rainfall during a summer can considerably improve yields of multiple harvest regime. Due to its short vegetation the sudangrass and its hybrids with sorghum are easily to incorporate into crop rotation and crop sequence. They are best suited as a subsequent crops after the harvest of winter forage crops. They can give an excellent green forage during a summer, and herbage for ensiling and hay production as well. In the sequence with winter forage crops they provide a high annual cumulative yield and very good ponder of quality.
