Abstract
Konvencionalna obrada sve se više preispituje obzirom na njene negativne strane, a posebno u vidu promjena klime kojima se potrebno prilagoditi. Shvaća se da je kod vrednovanja proizvodnog sustava potrebno uvažiti dugoročni učinak na okoliš (tlo). Isključivo praćenje ekonomskih parametara i kratkoročne isplativosti, na dugi rok neupitno dovodi do degradacije tla i okoliša u cjelini odnosno do neodrživosti proizvodnje. Konzervacijska obrada ima mnoge prednosti u odnosu na konvencionalnu obradu. Te prednosti sve su važnije u smislu preveniranja šteta od klimatskih promjena i/ili prevenciji samih klimatskih promjena. Konzervacija vode, bolja infiltracija, manji troškovi i zbijanje tla, zadržavanje CO2 u tlu i povećanje sadržaja organske tvari, bolja struktura, veća biološka aktivnost, smanjena erozija vodom i vjetrom itd. samo su neke od prednosti. Dobri prinosi (jednaki ili viši u odnosu na konvencionalnu obradu) postižu se na tlima visoke plodnosti posebice kod ozime pšenice no potrebna su daljnja istraživanja na pojedinim tipovima tla kako bi se utvrdilo koji sustav konzervacijske obrade je za njih najprikladniji. CO2 kao uzrok globalnog zatopljenja vjerojatno nije značajan u većoj mjeri, no sekvestracija ugljika u tlo (koju se zagovara radi smanjenja emisije CO2) je svakako pozitivna zbog učuvanja organske tvari. Tu se konzervacijska obrada nameće kao dobro rješenje. Klima se mijenja u smjeru koji još nije potpuno jasan ni definiran no sigurno je da će se poimanje poljoprivrede izmijeniti u nadolazećim desetljećima. Konzervacijska obrada sa svim svojim sustavima omogućava suočavanje sa novim izazovima u smislu klimatskih promjena te istovremeno smanjuje troškove proizvodnje. Osim toga, njome se postiže i najvažniji cilj, a to je očuvanje produktivnog kapaciteta tla kao osnove za proizvodnju hrane te dugoročna održivost.

Conventional tillage is under more and more questioning regarding it's negative sides, especially in wake of climate changes that require adapting to. It is understood that long term effect on the environment (soil) must be acknowledged at valuating the tillage system. Tracking only economic parameters and short-term benefits leads without question to soil and environment degradation and unsustainable production in the long run. Conservation tillage hasmany advantages compared to conventional tillage. These advantages are important in preventing damage caused by climate change and/or preventing the climate change itself. Water conservation, better infiltration, reduced costs and soil compaction, containment of CO2 in the soil and increased percentage of organic matter, better structure and biological activity, reduced erosion etc. are just some of the advantages. Good yield (equal or higher than conventional tillage) can be expected on highly fertile soils especially with winter wheat, but further research is needed on different soil types to discover which conservation tillage system is the most suitable for them. CO2 probably isn't so important as cause of global warming, but carbon sequestration in the soils (which is to reduce the CO2 emission) is surely a positive thing to do because of the organic matter preservation. Conservation tillage is a good solution for this. Climate is changing in a direction that is not yet completely known but it is sure that the concept of agriculture will change in upcoming decades. Conservation tillage systems enable us to confront new challenges like climate change and to reduce production costs at the same time. Finally, it also accomplishes the most important goal of preserving the soils productive capacity as means of food production, and long term sustainability.
